Lesson Plan: God through Our Relationships with Others

Grade: Primary 3

Subject: Christian Religious Studies

Duration: 60 Minutes

Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students will:

  1. Understand the concept of reflecting God’s love through our relationships with others.
  2. Identify ways to show kindness, compassion, and love to their friends, family, and community.
  3. Recognize that treating others well is a way of honoring God.

Materials Needed:

  • Bible or children’s Bible storybook
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Story props (optional)
  • Handouts with activities (coloring sheets, word searches, etc.)
  • Crayons and pencils
  • Blank paper for drawing or writing

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Greeting and Prayer:

    • Start with a simple prayer asking for God’s guidance during the lesson.
    • Welcome students and briefly discuss the importance of kindness and love.
  2. Hook:

    • Ask the students if they remember a time when someone was really kind to them. How did it make them feel?
    • Share a brief personal story of an act of kindness and its impact.

Lesson Development (40 minutes):

1. Bible Story (15 minutes):

  • Storytelling:

    • Share the story of “The Good Samaritan” (Luke 10:25-37). Use a children’s Bible or a storybook for an age-appropriate version.
    • Engage students with props or acting out the story to make it vivid and memorable.
  • Discussion Questions:

    • Who in the story showed love and kindness?
    • Why is it important to help others, even if we don’t know them well?
    • How do you think God felt about the actions of the Good Samaritan?

2. Key Verse (5 minutes):

  • Memory Verse:
    • Introduce the memory verse: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31).
    • Repeat the verse a few times together and discuss what it means to “love your neighbor.”

3. Group Activity (20 minutes):

  • Group Work:

    • Divide the students into small groups. Provide each group with a scenario where someone needs help, such as a friend who is sad or a family member who is ill.
    • Ask each group to come up with a plan to show love and help in their scenario.
  • Sharing:

    • Have each group share their scenario and plan with the class. Discuss the different ways they can show God’s love through their actions.

Conclusion (10 minutes):

  • Reflection:

    • Ask students to close their eyes and think of one person they can show kindness to this week.
    • Encourage them to write or draw their plan to help or be kind to that person on the blank paper provided.
  • Prayer:

    • Close with a prayer asking God to help each student to show His love through their actions and relationships with others.

Follow-Up Activities:

  • Home Connection:

    • Send a note home to parents explaining the lesson and suggesting ways they can reinforce the message (e.g., encouraging acts of kindness at home, discussing the Good Samaritan story).
  • Classroom Display:

    • Create a bulletin board displaying the students’ drawings of their plans to show kindness. This can be a visual reminder throughout the week.

Assessment:

  • Observation:

    • Observe and note students’ participation during discussions and group activities.
    • Pay attention to the students’ understanding of the key concepts through their responses and actions.
  • Activities:

    • Collect and review the students’ drawings and written plans to show kindness. Provide positive feedback and encouragement.

This lesson plan aims to engage Primary 3 students in understanding and practicing the concept of showing God’s love through their relationships with others, reinforcing Christian values in everyday actions.
